Ten Weeks of Composition and Rhetoric

This quarter, the writings I have completed have been significantly different from the writing I have done in the past few years of high school. In high school, I took basic english, and then AP Language and AP Literature. It is easy to think that the AP courses would be similar to college english courses, however both AP courses vary greatly from english 101 writing. All the writing completed in this course was heavliy researched based and process based. I was very unfamiliar with this form of writing. I had never before had to write about how I discovered my research question, nor the process of studying the topic with the inclusion of my own thoughts. The writing this quarter was also extremely reflective, completing informal writings about personal views, opinions, and experiences. I was not used to the change of writing in first person so often and the inclusion of the pronoun "I". In high school, I was bound to writing in third person, while simply examining the themes of a novel, for instance. I was also quite unfamiliar with informal writings, and even the letter to my reader. I was very used to writing with a clear audience, but with an unbiased tone, never with a clear motive. However, the letter to my reader for instance, allowed me to discuss my own views and opinions on the topic and what I hoped to achieve in the paper, which I enjoyed writing about.
